Babies and Bastardy – Talk by Yvonne Chapman

September 9, 2024 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

Attitudes to Babies and Bastards in 18th and early 19th century Allensmore. Yvonne Chapman explores the role of state and church in shaping societal attitudes to bastardy, and how the legacy of the Tudor poor laws trickled down the centuries. The evidence from Allensmore gives us glimpses into the actual lived experience of rich and poor in the parish.

This talk is free to all Friends of Herefordshire Archives – £5 to non-members.
