SUMMARY:Impressing people - seals and sealing practices in medieval England and Wales
DESCRIPTION:Seals were the medieval equivalent of signatures or credit cards\, used to validate and authenticate as well as secure documents and other items. There were far more than just administrative and legal tools\, though. As little packages of image and text\, they identified and represented institutions\, corporate bodies\, offices\, and men and women from royalty down to unfree peasants. Dr Elizabeth New of the University of Aberystwyth examines these fragile yet information packed sources. PLEASE NOTE – the speaker will be wearing a face covering and encourages the audience to do the same.
